Jestycef-O 50 Dry Syrup is a pediatric combination antibiotic formulation designed to treat a broad range of bacterial infections that may not respond adequately to single-agent therapy. It contains cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin, and ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone. Together, they provide enhanced coverage against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, offering dual action for faster and more effective control of infections.
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, leading to structural breakdown and cell death. Ofloxacin complements this effect by blocking bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication. The synergy of these two mechanisms helps target mixed or resistant bacterial strains commonly encountered in respiratory tract infections, otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and certain skin and soft-tissue infections.
The formulation is provided as a flavored dry powder that must be reconstituted with clean water to form an oral suspension suitable for children who have difficulty swallowing tablets. After reconstitution, the suspension should be stored as directed and shaken well before each dose to ensure uniform drug distribution.
