Description
Piprojest-TZ Injection is a broad-spectrum antibacterial combination used for the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Piperacillin is an extended-spectrum penicillin that works by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, while Tazobactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor that protects Piperacillin from enzymatic degradation, thereby enhancing its antibacterial activity.
This combination is commonly employed in the management of hospital-acquired and community-acquired infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, and septicemia. It is also used as an empirical therapy in febrile neutropenia due to its wide coverage against gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic pathogens.
The injection is generally administered intravenously by a healthcare professional. Dosage and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, renal function, and patient condition. The formulation is usually reconstituted and diluted before infusion. Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, rash, injection-site reactions, and laboratory abnormalities such as changes in liver enzymes or blood counts.
Piperacillin-Tazobactam is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, or β-lactamase inhibitors. Caution is advised in individuals with renal impairment or a history of drug allergies. Monitoring of renal function, electrolytes, and blood counts may be recommended during therapy.
