Cefuroxime 500mg Tab

Gojirox-500 tablets contain Cefuroxime axetil, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity. It acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to essential penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. Cefuroxime is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus mirabilis, and Moraxella catarrhalis.

After oral administration, cefuroxime axetil (a prodrug) is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and rapidly hydrolyzed by esterases to active cefuroxime. Peak plasma concentrations are generally reached within 2–3 hours. Bioavailability is enhanced when taken after food. Cefuroxime is approximately 33–50% protein-bound and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine, with an elimination half-life of about 1–1.5 hours.

Indications include infections of the respiratory tract (such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, gonorrhea, and certain cases of otitis media and Lyme disease.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is 250–500 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of infection. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and preferably taken after meals to enhance absorption.

Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or beta-lactam antibiotics.

Adverse Effects: May include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), headache, dizziness, rash, urticaria, and, rarely, hypersensitivity reactions or pseudomembranous colitis.

Precautions: Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, gastrointestinal disease, or a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.

Storage: Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
