Jestycef-200 is a broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic formulated for convenient oral administration. Each tablet contains Cefixime 200 mg as the active ingredient, presented in a dispersible form that rapidly dissolves in water, making it ideal for patients with swallowing difficulties or for pediatric and geriatric use. Cefixime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death in susceptible organisms. Cefixime exhibits strong bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. It is resistant to many β-lactamases, allowing it to remain effective against bacteria that inactivate earlier-generation cephalosporins and penicillins. Indications: Cefixime 200 mg Dispersible Tablets are indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections (such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis), otitis media, urinary tract infections, uncomplicated gonorrhea, typhoid fever, and certain gastrointestinal infections. It may also be prescribed for skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible organisms. Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is 200 mg to 400 mg daily, given as a single dose or divided into two doses, depending on the severity of infection. The dispersible tablet should be dissolved in a small amount of water before administration or swallowed directly with water. Treatment duration typically ranges from 5 to 10 days, as directed by a physician. Side Effects: Common adverse effects include mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and flatulence. Hypersensitivity reactions, rash, and transient elevations in liver enzymes may occur in rare cases. Precautions: Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, and dosage adjustment may be necessary. Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins is a contraindication. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Storage: Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture.
