Description

Jestymox-625 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combination belonging to the beta-lactam class of antibacterial agents. It is commonly known as Amoxicillin–Clavulanate or Co-amoxiclav. This formulation combines Amoxycillin, a semi-synthetic penicillin, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, to enhance antibacterial effectiveness against resistant strains of bacteria.

Composition:

Each tablet contains:

Amoxycillin (as Amoxycillin Trihydrate) equivalent to 500 mg of Amoxycillin

Clavulanic Acid (as Potassium Clavulanate) equivalent to 125 mg of Clavulanic Acid

Pharmacology:

Amoxycillin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate amoxycillin. Clavulanic Acid, a structural analog of the beta-lactam ring, inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, thereby protecting Amoxycillin from enzymatic degradation. This synergy extends the spectrum of activity of Amoxycillin to include many beta-lactamase–producing organisms.

Spectrum of Activity:

The combination is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (non–methicillin-resistant strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp., and Moraxella catarrhalis.

Indications:

It is used to treat various bacterial infections such as:

Respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

Otitis media and sinus infections

Urinary tract infections

Skin and soft tissue infections

Bone and joint infections

Dental infections

Dosage and Administration:

Usually administered orally every 8 to 12 hours, depending on the severity of infection and medical advice. Tablets should be taken at the start of a meal to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort and improve absorption.

Adverse Effects:

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and mild skin rashes. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions, hepatic dysfunction, or pseudomembranous colitis may occur.

Precautions:

Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. It should be avoided in individuals with known penicillin hypersensitivity. Prolonged use may lead to secondary infections or bacterial resistance.

Storage:

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and direct sunlight.

Conclusion:

Jestymox-625 Tab is a potent, synergistic antibacterial combination widely used for treating infections caused by beta-lactamase–producing bacteria, offering broad-spectrum efficacy and enhanced therapeutic outcomes when used appropriately under medical supervision
