Amoxycillin 250mg + Clavulanic Acid 125mg

Jestymox-375 Tablet is a combination antibiotic formulation belonging to the beta-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor class. It contains amoxycillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic, and clavulanic acid, a β-lactamase inhibitor that enhances amoxycillin’s effectiveness against resistant bacteria. The combination is designed to overcome bacterial resistance and provide broader antimicrobial coverage than amoxycillin alone.

Amoxycillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the breakdown and death of susceptible bacteria. However, some bacteria produce β-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate amoxycillin. Clavulanic acid counteracts this by binding to and inhibiting β-lactamases, allowing amoxycillin to remain active. This synergy makes the formulation effective against many gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic pathogens.

This combination is commonly used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, otitis media, skin and soft-tissue infections, urinary tract infections, and certain dental infections. It is often prescribed when resistance to standard penicillin antibiotics is suspected or confirmed.

The tablets are typically taken orally and are generally recommended to be consumed with food to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort and improve absorption. Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and, less commonly, allergic reactions such as rash. Rare but serious side effects include severe hypersensitivity reactions, liver enzyme disturbances, or Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea. Individuals with known penicillin allergies should avoid this medication unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.

This combination should only be used under medical supervision, and the full course must be completed even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance. It is not effective against viral infections such as colds or flu. If unusual symptoms develop, medical attention should be sought promptly.
